An inspirational story about finding your place in the world! Very eye opening of how different the amenities are and what's needed in other countries. I enjoyed the characters and loved seeing them connect and grow as the story evolved.
When Stephanie Yates and her two best friends win the lottery, they push her out the door for the trip to some place exotic that she's always talked about ... only she was thinking something more along the lines of Paris, not Peru where "the one she compares all other men to" is setting up medical clinics!
Daniel Lincoln is the brother of one of her best friends, and is the man she's had a crush on for like forever. She sets out thinking she'll be fine to just pass through and get in and get out without showing her feelings for him, but once she's there and spending time working with him, she realizes how much he's changed. He's an even better guy that he ever was before, and she falls even deeper for him. And worse ... she finds she's more fulfilled in this foreign country than she is at home!
4.5 stars. Stephanie Yates is in love with her best friend Rebecca's brother, Daniel Lincoln, who regards her more like a little sister than the mature young woman she's become. When Stephanie finally gets up the nerve to ask Daniel out, it's very bad timing and he rejects her invitation. Daniel is dealing with some serious issues of his own. His arrogance in rejecting proper protocol and disrespecting the Holly Heights Hospital Administrator where he served as a doctor resulted in more than the loss of his job, and has sent him fleeing from Texas to the mountains of Peru, regretful and desiring to be as far away from home as his pride will take him. Having come into money, Stephanie's friends have concocted a scheme to send her off to Peru to right whatever's gone wrong between the two of them. Stephanie also plans to donate a large sum of money to fund Daniel's projects there. But when Stephanie arrives in Peru, instead of a warm welcome, Daniel seems irritated by her presence. Is he simply not interested, or does her close proximity delight him to the point of distraction from his important work of setting up medical clinics in the developing land, a predicament he'd rather not be in.
Winner Takes All was another enjoyable Heartwarming read by Cheryl Harper. I have enjoyed all of her Heartwarming books. I was captivated by the setting, the beautiful mountains of Peru. I could feel the tension as the team of medical volunteers climbed the steep mountains without rails. I imagined the sun disappearing almost instantaneously shrouding the solitary road in darkness. I felt like I was in the Andes mountains along with the rest of the chatacters, from Daniel's team of medical helpers to the area residents. Wondering how Daniel and Stephanie would resolve their feelings for each other was very satisfying. Winner Takes All easily held my attention and I recommend it as a sweet romance read with an international flair that is sure to please.
I was captivated by the setting and the author wrote so that you can imagine yourself being there. This is an inspirational story about finding your place in life. I enjoyed the characters and loved seeing them connect and grow as the story evolved. Daniel was struggling with his own perception of himself, battling major ego and control. Stephanie helps Daniel to see himself and who he wants to become, as well as herself. I also liked that she called him out on his rudeness and bossy ways. The trip to visit Daniel breaks her free of her safe and secure life and she finds that she’s ready for more in her life. This is a sweet romance (no steam) and I enjoyed it as the romance was not an easy journey for these two. Winner Takes All was an enjoyable heartwarming read. I think Stephanie’s two close friends would have good stories to tell (the three of them known to Daniel as the Holy Horrors). This was the first book I’ve read by Cheryl Harper and I will check out her other books.
