While I appreciate most cookbooks from a practical sense, you occasionally come across a cookbook that you can just read for pleasure even if you don't use any of the recipes. This is one of those books. Simply a joy to read, with great stories about food, cooking, Italian life, and Locatelli's life. The photography is just spectacular. It is impossible to page through this and not get hungry!
The recipes themselves are well presented, with ample descriptions of techniques and process. All the bases are covered, from antipasto to desserts.
Up until now my favorite Italian cookbook has been (The Splendid Table: Recipes from Emilia-Romagna, the Heartland of Northern Italian Food mainly since it reflects the regional Italian cooking that I grew up with. While my well-worn copy of The Splendid Table will always be at hand, it will be taking a rest while I enjoy Made in Italy. I've already purchased another copy as a gift for my sister.
Highly recommend!!

Made in Italy Food and Stories edition by Giorgio Locatelli Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews
nice in depth discussion about different ingredients used in Italian cooking and the history behind their use and manufacture.
very interesting and informative.
There is lots of Italian food out there, but really, this book grabs the essence of it. If you want to understand why good pasta tastes good, and why gelato is amazing, then this is for you. If you're more of a dominoes kinda person, steer clear; this book is the real deal.
More a memoire than a cookbook. Interesting background descriptions of running restaurants
Great Italian kitchen cookbook. My wife just loves it and I love to eat what she cooks.
almost perfect........almost
which I bought for my chef. We just completed two weeks of culinary school in Italy. I like Locatelli story telling approach to the book.. Many of the dishes in the book we covered at school but this book gives more back ground information and he frees himself of some of the "traditions" followed in schools. It really enhanced my experience in Italy. I read my copy before I went an refer to it after. I wish I could have gone to his restaurant in Great Britain but we didn't travel there.
This is more of an elegant manifesto on Italian cooking than it is a cookbook. Locatelli is a restaurant legend and has an incredibly grounded philosophy about food (especially the native foods of Italy) and our relationship to it. In a personable voice, he describes how he came to be a chef, and what cooking means to him and Italian people in general. Almost every page contains a novel insight into a basic cooking ingredient, technique or process. Just the way he chops garlic is interesting and innovative. If you love cooking, food and/or cookbooks, this is a classic that must be on your shelf.
